比較級を用いた慣用表現へ行く。

比較級を用いた慣用表現には次のようなものがある。

The 比較級～, the 比較級･･･：～すればするほど、ますます･･･ †

The more the teacher talked, the less she understood.
- 先生が話せば話すほど、彼女はますます訳が分からなくなった。

Generally speaking, the older you become, the weaker memory you have.
- 一般的に、年齢を重ねれば重ねるほど記憶力は弱まるものだ。

know better than to do：～する以上の分別がある †

He knows better than to say such a thing.
- 彼はそんなことを言うほど馬鹿ではない。

than以下が明白な場合は省略することもある。

You should know better (than that).
- 君はもっと分別を持つべきだ。
